A note to the Caregiver:

Recognizing that care giving is both a demanding and rewarding job; it is best to explore resources now that may be helpful for you in the future. Being prepared with lists of outside help will keep stress under control when a need arises.

Register with local agencies for in-home assistance, Meals-on-Wheels, visiting nurses etc. Build as large a support system as possible and include not only family but friends. People are often very happy to know they can be helpful. Don't try to do everything yourself.

Make a list of all the things you need help with and then try to match this list with members of your support group.

Take guilt-free time for yourself. If you don't take care of yourself you will be of little use to anyone. You deserve rest and relaxation. It will recharge your batteries!

Whenever possible try to get a little exercise into your life as it will make you feel better. During exercise the brain releases endorphins which have a soothing effect and will help to reduce stress.

Care givers are today's heroes!
